Dings Crusaders RFC National League Two South Saturday 27th March 2010 Westcombe Park 45 Dings 43 As the score line suggests both defences went missing all afternoon producing fourteen tries, seven each with the home side finding one more conversion to win the match. Dings were guilty of giving away the softest tries with two poor interceptions and a simple dropped catch from a restart gifting the home side twenty-one points in the first half. Trailing 33-12 at halftime Dings mounted a fine comeback in the second half with nineteen unanswered points in the final quarter but fell agonisingly short of the win they would almost certainly have got had the game gone on another couple of minutes. The home side opened the scoring on seven minutes with a try for hooker David Brookes converted by scrum half Lee Audis, Dings hit back almost immediately with a try from centre Jack Gadd. Direct from the restart Dings failed to control the ball and flanker Gareth Inches seized on the ball to charge over for Parks second try. Unbelievably Dings hit straight back from the restart when Park failed to control the ball for winger Sylvan Edwards and George Watkins to break for the line and put full back Orlando Stott in under the posts, scrum half Steve Plummer added the conversion to tie the game up ay 12-12 on twenty minutes. Two simple interception tries from centre Vincent Booiman and a pick up and stroll over from the base of a five metre scrum by No 8 Tom Hayman gifted the home side twenty one points and a halftime lead of 33-12. Dings opened the second half with a try for No 8 Gavin Curry after five minutes of pressure on the home sides try line, Plummer added the conversion. The home side hit back with a second try for Hooker Brookes from a back peel off a lineout. Back came Dings with a second try for full back Stott after a slick move along the back line. Centre Vincent Booiman completed his hat trick of tries bursting through the centre with Dings defence in total disarray, leaving Dings 45-24 down on sixty minutes. The final quarter belonged to Dings with tries from wings Edwards and Watkins separated by a penalty try taking then to within two points of the home side with a touchline conversion attempt to tie the match, a good effort from Plummer narrowly missed the upright leaving the home side to breathe a sigh of relief. A great comeback by Dings but some woeful defending in the first half left them too much to do and cost them a rare away win. .
