Richmond 51 Dings 22

On a very hot sunny afternoon Dings trailing just 12-15 at halftime fell away badly in the second to a Richmond side that never really dominated the match but their slick back line looking to run the ball from anywhere on the pitch punished every Dings mistake for a haul of seven tries, Ding battled on well to score four good tries to secure a try bonus point.

The opening fifteen minutes saw Dings dominating both possession and territory but making several critical unforced when scoring opportunities presented themselves. Richmond opened the scoring on sixteen minutes when Dings gave up a simple turnover ten meters from the Richmond try line the ball was moved along the line for full back Jonny Webbe to score under the posts. Dings hit back three minutes later when lock Gareth Lloyd was on hand to get the touchdown after a good run by wing George Watkins.

On the half hour Richmond full back took advantage of some very poor tackling by Dings to run in a try from the halfway line. Dings hit back with their second try when full back Orlando Stott seized on a dropped ball by Webbe to feed Watkins for a try in the corner that levelled the score at 12-12. On the stroke of halftime stand off Luke Cousins landed a penalty for the home side and the lead at halftime.

Cousins added a second penalty in the first minute of the second half to extend the lead to 18-12. Two tries for flanker Peter Clarke in two minutes on fifty minutes saw the home side pull away. The first came after some very slick handling by the home backs and the second came straight from the kick off when Dings failed to gather the kick Clarke took full advantage to score under the posts, Cousins converted both tries for 32-12 to the home side.

Dings stuck at it and got their third try on sixty five minutes after a good break by Stott was carried on by Watkins for prop Josh Lloyd to crash over from close in. For the second time in the match Richmond then scored direct from the kick off when Dings failed to control the ball full back Webbe nipped in to completed hit hat trick with a score under the posts.

Dings got their fourth try on seventy-six minutes when hard working No 8 Gavin Curry battled over from a driving maul. Two tries from the home side in the final two minutes took their score over fifty to finish their season in style, for a Dings try bonus point was well deserved but they were far too loose all afternoon which played into the hands of a very slick home back line that ran in tries from all over the park.
