Dings Crusaders RFC National League Two South Saturday 12th September 2009 Lydney 26 Dings 27 In a fiercely contested match where the lead changed four times Dings eventually won the game with an Adam Westall penalty in the dying minutes. Dings, who outscored the home side four tries to two, looked in deep trouble trailing 16-0 after just 20 minutes but three tries in five minutes around the halftime break got them back in the match and set up the win. The opening exchanges were dominated by a rampant Lydney pack and they took the lead on 5 minutes with a penalty from stand off Tony Wicks who added a further penalty and drop goal to give the home side a 9-0 lead after 15 minutes. With Dings starved of the ball Lydney stretched their lead on 20 minutes with a try from wing Nevaro Colin who gather a poor clearance kick from Dings and ran in a try from just inside the Dings half, Wicks added the conversion. The Dings pack eventually woke up and began to pressurise the Lydney line with flanker Stean Williams and scrum half Neil Dipple both held up over the try line. With the clock ticking down to halftime more pressure on the home sides try line saw Dings wing Chris Wright-Hider break the defence to score under the posts, Westall added the conversion. Straight from the restart Dings were back on the Lydney line and from a good lineout take by flanker Mitch Quoi the pack drove over the line for prop Tim Brockett to get the try out wide for a halftime score of 16-12 to the home side but all the momentum with Dings. The second half started in dramatic fashion, Dings took the kick off and Lydney failed to gather ball allowing Dings No 8 Gavin Curry, who had a fine game, to gather the ball and charge over for a try under the posts, Westall added the conversion to take Dings into the lead for the first time 19-16. Ten minutes into the half Dings were reduced to thirteen men with replacement lock Rob Rees, only on the field one minute, and prop Tim Brockett sin binned in quick succession. Lydney immediately took advantage with a try from centre Chris Holder converted by Wicks to regain the lead, Wicks added a further penalty to stretch the home sides lead to seven points at 26-19. Restored to fifteen men Dings got back on top and after 10 minutes of pressure deep in the home sides half replacement scrum half Ricky Jones darted over in corner for a try to set up a tense final ten minutes. With a massive effort from the Dings pack they dominated the final stages and the pressure eventually told with Westall slotting over the winning penalty two minutes from time.
