| Ivor Fackrell 1939 - 2009 |
It is with our greatest regret to announce that Ivor Fackrell Dings Crusaders RFC Honorary Treasurer passed away on Sunday night, Ivor was a stalwart of the club and respected throughout the National Leagues and Bristol Combination and will be greatly missed. A member of Dings for fifty years having followed his brother George to Dings from Bristol Saracens, George left mid season but Ivor ever the loyal club man waited until the start of the 1959 season before joining Dings. A prop for all his playing career making 252 appearances officially scoring 0 points, although I know this always rankled him as at every AGM when the latest statistics were handed out he always used to say to me “I am certain I scored one try”. After a playing break of numerous years he pulled back his boots on one last time to play a handful of games on the wing in the same team as his son. Always wanting to put something back to the game he then became a referee for quite a few years before being persuaded back to Dings full time to take up the role of club treasurer. Awarded life membership in 2007 he will be missed by everybody at the club from the players on the pitch, never one to use a nickname it was always “well done Peter” or “good play Philip” to the men on the gate “I’m sorry how many sugars was that”. A “Dings Man” through and through the club has just become that little bit smaller.
