Dings Crusaders RFC National League Two South Saturday 13th February 2010 Dings 31 - Bridgwater 5 DINGS CRUSADERS Sylvan Edwards scored two superb tries on his way to helping his side secure a try bonus point victory over lowly Bridgewater at Landseer Avenue. Man-of-the-Match Edwards caused havoc in the visitor's defence all afternoon with his powerful charges and was by far the most potent attacking weapon in the Crusaders armoury. The powerhouse winger bagged a try in each half with his second effort being the highlight of the game. Edwards received the ball 40-metre out and his determined run saw him brush past several defenders on his way to scoring a magnificent solo try. But Edwards is only too aware that his side need to improve by some margin if they hope to return from their visit to high-flying Rosslyn Park next Saturday with any points in the bank. He said: "We are happy to get the bonus point win but we're not happy with our performance - which is a good thing because we know we can play a lot better. It was scrappy game in places and Bridgwater made thing difficult for us with their spoiling tactics," he said "We have to go to Rosslyn Park next week so we will see where we are in terms of our form but we all know that we must up our game if we are to have any chance." He added
Dings were under the cosh in the opening spell but the visitors failed to turn their possession into points whereas the Bristol side scored with their opening attack. Dings were awarded a 14th minute penalty, which they opted Two minutes later, Edwards grabbed his first converted try to make it 14-0. Dings were in complete control at this stage with skipper Stean Williams in great from at the breakdown and wing Sam Caven making inroad whenever the opportunities arose. Yet Dings were guilty of trying to play too much rugby in their own territory and were largely responsible for keeping the visitors in the contest. On far too many occasions they opted to keep the ball in hand in their own 22 instead of clearing their lines and starting again.
Bridgwater crossed for their only score of the match on 33 minutes when No8 Greg Charlton was driven over from a lineout to make it 14-5 at the break. The Lockleaze side added to their tally on 56-minutes with a Lukjaniec |
