| Dings 22 - Ealing 29 |
|
Not for the first time this season Dings made it all too easy for the opposition by conceding far too many penalties allowing Ealing’s full back Ben Ward to kick the visitors to victory with nineteen points from seven kicks in a flawless display with the boot. Dings for the second week running had to settle for a losing bonus point despite outscoring Ealing three tries to two. Ealing opened the scoring on eight minutes with try from flanker Blair Morris after a neat block on the Dings tackler went unnoticed by referee David Walker on exchange from Scotland, Ward added the conversion. Dings hit back two minutes later when a fine jinking run by man of the match wing George Watkins took play to the Ealing line for full back Orlando Stott to claim the touchdown, stand off Adam Westall converted to level the scores at 7-7. Stott was again in the action when he went close a minute later with a run up the middle of the park, after a good break by flanker Mitch Quoi, was just halted by a last ditch tap tackle. By the middle of the second quarter Dings were already racking up the penalty count and Ward landed two to give the visitors a six point lead on half hour. Yet another penalty was driven to the corner by Ealing to set up a five metre lineout which was caught and driven over by the visitors pack, the ball was held up over the line by Dings but No 8 Guthrie Hall scored a very soft try from the base of the resultant scrum, Ward added the conversion to give Ealing a halftime lead of 20-7. Dings opened the second half with a bang camping on the Ealing line for five minutes showing great patience and control for skipper Stean Williams to eventually burrow over the line, Westall added the conversion to get Dings back in the game at 14-20. With Dings continuing to be penalised at the breakdown Ward added a penalty and a drop goal after a penalty had been indicated and Watkins landed a good penalty for Dings to take the score to 26-17 to the visitors on the hour. Dings hit back five minutes later with a brilliant solo try from wing Watkins when he gathered a clearance kick from Ward and weaved his way through the visitors defence to score in the corner. Any chance of a come back by Dings was lost when scrum half Neil Dipple was sin binned on seventy minutes and Ward rounded of the afternoon landing his seventh kick five minutes from time.
