Dings 21 Rosslyn Park 21

With a vastly improved display from recent weeks Dings were unlucky not to secure the win, leading with just minutes to go the visitors stand off Ross Laidlaw produce a fine break from a rare turned over lineout to race to the corner and level the scores.

With both sides looking well up for the match early exchanges were pretty fiercely contested but it was the visitors who opened the scoring on eight minutes with a try for lock Adam Gates who crashed over from close in after several phases on the Dings line, Laidlaw added the conversion. Undeterred Dings got into their stride and put together a good controlled passage of play that saw them retain and recycle the ball and pressurise the visitors line. Dings took the lead with three penalties early in the second quarter; two from stand off Tom Lukjaniec and a monster from his own half from impressive young wing George Watkins, for 9-7 to Dings on twenty-eight minutes.

Dings increased their lead on half hour with a well worked try for full back Orlando Stott from deep in their own half, after a good drive by the pack the ball was moved along the line with Stott making the initial break before exchanging passes with wing Watkins and sprinting over wide on the left, referee Simon Harding harshly ruled the conversion kick out on time and Lukjaniec missed with a rushed drop attempt.

Dings went very close five minutes later when Watkins and Wheeler drove up the middle to the Park line and prop Tim Brockett just failed to hold a difficult pass five metres from the try line. Dings should have increased their lead before half time when first Lukjaniec and then Watkins missed penalty attempts to leave the score 14-7 to Dings at halftime.

Dings penalty misses late in the first half looked all the more important when Rosslyn Park opened the second half strongly and Laidlaw added two penalties in the first five minutes to reduce the arrears to one point at 14-13. However Dings were back on the score sheet within five minutes with a try for wing Watkins. Impressive debut lock Josh Brown won a lineout just outside the visitors twenty two for lock Gareth Lloyd to drive into midfield, the ball was moved to Lukjaniec who produced a beautiful inside ball for Watkins to sidestep his way over the line, Lukjaniec added the conversion. A penalty for Laidlaw on the hour mark reduced the arrears to 21-16 and set up a fine last quarter where both sides played some very good rugby and gave every ounce.

With just minutes on the clock Dings looked to have secured a win when Lukjaniec kicked a penalty to touch for the home sides lineout on halfway, but the lineout was lost and stand off Laidlaw produced a break to run diagonally for the corner and level the scores.
