National League Two South Saturday 1st May 2010 Barking 67 Dings 0 A re-arranged fixture against the league champions on a Bank Holiday weekend with a depleted side and late arrival due to coach breakdown was always going to make this a very difficult afternoon for Dings and the score line was no surprise. Trailing 46-0 at halftime conceding seven tries Dings looked and played like a team that had got straight off the bus but they emerged with great credit after a good battling second half performance when they were extremely unlucky not to have got a couple of scores. Barking opened the scoring in the second minute with a try for winger Scott Shaw after a simple miss pass in the centre gave him a overlap and added his second five minutes later when he found acres of space out wide. With the Dings pack totally dominated the home side ran in tries at regular intervals, two came from lineout catch and drives and another two from strikes against the head at the scrum with the first half closing with a beautiful cross kick gathered by lock Dan Lloyd-Jones for a try in the corner. Dings shuffled their back line at halftime and introduced experienced prop Dave Hilton and that together with having run the coach trip out of their made for a vastly improved second half. They dominated the first ten minutes and went very close to scoring from a couple of good runs from full back Orlando Stott and some battling drives from flanker Dan Lee who had an outstanding afternoon. Pressing hard for a score on the home sides try line Barkings stand off Harry Owens pulled off an interception to run the length of the field for a score under the posts. Two harsh refereeing decisions followed as full back Orlando Stott was yellow carded when going for an interception and Barking were awarded a penalty try after a single collapsed scrum on their try line.
Dings fought hard to open their account but could not find the final pass to
break a stout Barking defence and it was the home side that wrapped up the scoring in the final five minutes with another well executed cross kick for wing Fraser Nicholas to touch down in the corner and stand off Harry Owens to land his seventh conversion from the touch line. Scorers: Dings - none
